KOLKATA:
Bengal CPM leaders may have reconciled to the expulsion of Lok Sabha Speaker
Somnath Chatterjee, but not Subhas Chakrabarty.
The maverick transport
minister in the Buddhadeb Bhattacharyya government gave a piece of his mind in
the CPM state secretariat meeting on Friday and dashed off a letter to party
state secretary Biman Bose, seeking clarifications for the disciplinary action
taken against
Chatterjee.
According to
sources, Chakrabarty expressed his reservations over the purge and wanted the
party to come clear why it had to take such a ''hasty step''.
The matter came up in the
state secretariat meet where Bose was briefing members about the Central
Ccommitte meeting in Delhi on July 19 and
20.
In a bid to prevent
confusion among the party ranks, CPM general secretary Prakash Karat will attend
the two-day state committee meeting, beginning Saturday, in Kolkata. Karat seems
to be taking a cautious path this time, as Chatterjee is a senior MP and close
to CPM patriarch Jyoti Basu.
