Meet Adhuna Akhtar and Osh Bhabani; the brother-sister act that has transformed the way the city’s slick new generation looks and thinks about hair
Remember that feeling you had when you looked at the drummer in your school band. You suddenly felt very uncool, and he, well, he looked like the king of cool. It happened to me too.
With me, however, it was the drummer’s girlfriend that had me staring at the floor. She was his partner, the queen of cool — laidback, rock-starish and brazenly oblivious to the fact that she was dating the school’s most-desired male.
I got that feeling again when I met Adhuna Akhtar and Osh Bhabani. The brother-sister duo has a unique way of making you feel uncool. How do they manage that? Because they’ve redefined cool, and done it using a rather unusual medium — hair!
Yes, the owners of the hippest salon in town, B:Blunt, have revolutionised the way we wear our hair, or even the way we think about it. And though both of them wanted to be rock stars (they look like a pair of them anyway, Adhuna in her white jumpsuit and patent wedges, and Osh in a plain white CK tee), they chose to make hairstyling a profession, and the city’s youth is lapping it up.
“I think hairstyling in India was going good before we came on the scene, but what we did was give it an ambience like never before," says Adhuna. Let’s decode the word ‘ambience': There are the snazzy interiors with pink lights; a hairdresser you would surely want as part of your party set; the luxury of relaxing with a magazine and a nicely made cup of coffee; and obviously the tag of a B:Blunt haircut when you leave.
